Milk jug Bombé
Designed in 1945, the set was initially produced in heavy, chrome-plated and silver-plated brass, then in stainless steel.
The Bombé set is very much a product of the post-war socio-cultural climate, and as such it is a specific phenomenon of design and custom that connects with the first era of Italian design, with the briar furnishing, with the Vespa curves, Isetta, the first Arflex armchairs and with the typewriters of Marcello Nizzoli for Olivetti. Seen through modern eyes, it reminds of pop art and there are clear references to a morphological history of "bombé" coffee makers, from Christopher Dresser onwards.

Carlo Alessi
Born in Granerolo (Verbania) in 1916, he studied technical design at the Istituto OMAR of Novara, entering very young in the metal household workshop founded by his father Giovanni in 1921.
From the mid-1930s he designed for a decade many of the Alessi objects including the series 'Ottagonale', 'Scalini', 'Cilindrica' and the famous 'Bombé', still in production in the Officina catalog. In the '50s he took on the role of general manager of the company giving it an international dimension and opening it to the collaboration with external designers.
He was president of Alessi S.p.A. until July 2009, the date of his death.

Since 1921, when the company was founded, the most significant part of the Alessi objects is made by cold working of metals and, even today, it is produced in Italy by skilled workers of the Crusinallo factory in Omegna. Even when it takes place outside the Crusinallo factory, the guidelines that Alessi has established guarantee the same quality standards as the original production of the company, in a continuous mediation between the technological complexity of the industry and the attention to details of craftsmanship.
